Choosing Your Wedding Gown
How do you find that perfect wedding gown? Firstly, know your body proportions. Start by
analyzing your body to know your good points (and not so good points). The truth is, even
if you are Claudia Schiffer, not all types of gowns may suit you. Secondly, you need to
know your style, to be sure that the dress you wear reflects - You. Here are some tips to
finding the right gown.
Body shape: Wide Hips
You have narrow shoulders and wide hips. Wear strapless bodice, or off-the shoulder bodice
to draw attention to your upper half. A-line skirts draw attention to arms, back and upper
body, making your upper half more in proportion to your lower half.
Avoid wearing V or halter necklines, and sheath skirt which will emphasize your lower
half.
Body shape: Plus Size
You have full breasts and round hips, with a bit of tummy. Your waist is smaller in
relation to your shoulders and hips. Wear a decorative neckline to de-emphasize the
lower-half. A ball gown or A-line cut gown, with longs seams tend to create a trim look.
Avoid wearing spaghetti straps and tapered skirts which will emphasize your lower half.
Body shape: Hour Glass
You have a well-proportioned body - big chest, big hips and small waist. Wear a dropped
waist or Basque waist skirt, with scooped or V neckline to emphasize your chest.
Avoid wearing a ball gown which may make you look disproportioned; a jewel or sleeves
ending at bust level may make you look too top-heavy.
Body shape: Petite
You are basically small.
Wear simple, fitted gowns that don't overwhelm.
Avoid wearing full floor-length gowns, which may make you look shorter.
Body shape: Tall and Thin
You are tall and thin. Flaunt your body.
Wear fitted gowns. Enhance your curves with bias cuts and horizontal lines.
Avoid wearing big skirts.
Body shape: Short waist
Your body is naturally proportioned, except the small distance from your ribs to your
hips. Wear a fitted bodice, opening up gradually to a full skirt - to elongate your
figure.
Avoid wearing tapered skirts which will make your short waist more obvious.
Body shape: Thick waist
Your body is naturally proportioned, except your waist is undefined. Wear low waisted gown
(empire waisted) which will de-emphasize your waistline and give you a slim look.
Avoid wearing gowns with a defined or fitted waist. |
