Choose a
Wedding Date
- The Chinese Way
For many Chinese choosing a date for the wedding is a very important thing. Especially
those that are very traditional. There are many ways this is done. Some do it by matching
the birth dates and times of the bride and groom and choosing the most auspicious day that
is most suitable to the couples' birth dates. Some refer to the "Tung Shu"
(Chinese almanac). Yet others refer to religious leaders at temples for advise on the best
dates.
In general, the eighth month of the lunar calendar is best and the seventh month is worst
(due to the Hungry Ghost Festival). Different dialect clans have their different practices
and beliefs. Usually it is best to check with an elder in the family if you believe in
choosing an auspicious date. Below are some dates that are deemed "good dates"
to have a wedding by Chinese traditions according to the lunar calendar.
