Planning
Long Distance Wedding

Many of us who work in the cities like Kuala Lumpur are from out station, so it's not
uncommon to plan for long distance weddings in Malaysia. It's a bit trickier but with
extra effort and planning, you'll be able to go through it without a hitch. Here's some
advice:
Plan
Pre-think everything. With a long-distance wedding, you have twice as much to plan.
Pre-book your make-up artist, hair stylist, florist in advance. Book your restaurant way
in advance. Organize a to-do list (remember to include contingencies), from the time you
dress-up to the to the time you leave for the church or the groom's house. Go through your
list with friends to make sure your don't leave out any items.
Delegate
Delegate work to as many friends and relatives as possible ideally they should be people
who are staying in your hometown - each to handle an assignment, from music to photography
to handling your wedding gear (make-up, shoes, accessories, etc.). Don't try to handle the
whole wedding yourself, coz you'll be to busy worrying rather than enjoying yourself.
Money and Jewellery
A lot of people will be giving you 'ang pow' (cash) and jewellery as gift on your wedding
day. To make sure you don't misplace the gifts - give the responsibility to your
bridesmaid or bestman to keep it for you. Open a safe at the hotel and at the home so that
they can deposit the gifts. Sometimes, your family members may receive gifts from guests.
Tell them to give the gifts to the person-in-charge of gifts to deposit in the safe. This
way, no one needs to hang onto the money and jewellery while you're away. |
