Tips to Guide You on Preparing Your Wedding Invitations
Before you begin figuring out how many invitations to order, you need
to formalise your guest list. Yes, it means going through old
yearbooks, old diaries and maybe even old photo albums. This is only
the first step. Then, you have to decide on how you want your
invitations to be. Remember, invitations should reflect the style you
want for your wedding and hence, set the theme and mood for your
wedding.
Now, assuming you have already chosen (or created) the invitation you
wanted, here are some tips you probably need to know (and follow), to
escape last minute pre-wedding stress!
Order
Play safe. Order your invitations at least three months before the
wedding. For engraved invitations, order them four months ahead.
Mail
Send your invitations one and half to two months before the wedding.
For overseas guests, send your invitations at least two and half
months in advance. Remember, you need to give your guests time to
reply back to you on their attendance.
Stationery
Whilst waiting for the invitation cards to be printed, prepare postage
stamps that suit the theme of your invitations. For instance, if your
invitation theme is centered towards the hip and carefree feel, you
may want to buy stamps with butterfly or birds pictures. Also, take
this opportunity to prepare the necessary stationeries e.g. pen, glue,
stickers, etc. - to save time.
Quantity
In figuring out the number of invitations (and envelopes) you need,
always, always order extra. Rule of thumb - an additional 10% of the
total number of invitations ordered would be comfortable. You might
even want to order more as keepsakes. Remember, it can be very
expensive to order additional invitations at the last minute.
Writing the Invitations
Try handwriting the invitations - it's more personal. You can address
the guests as Mr. and Mrs. for married guests, first names for
children; and family names for relatives (e.g. Aunty Nellie).
Posting
Check your invitations to ensure the addresses are correctly written
and stamps properly pasted before mailing.
