Preserving
Your Wedding Dress
|
Are you one of those brides who paid a fortune on the wedding
dress, and want to preserve it as white and perfect as possible for as long as possible -
but don't really know how? Don't worry; preserving your wedding dress to its natural
whiteness is not as difficult as you may think. In fact, it is surprisingly easy. Here's
how:
Send your dress to the dry-cleaners (a reputable one, of course) within six months from
the time you wore the dress. Contrary to older beliefs, you don't have to send your gown
immediately. All you have to do is to keep the gown lying flat or rolled on a bed or
cupboard that is dry and dark until it is time to send the gown for cleaning. Avoid
hanging the gown as it can stress the fabric unnecessarily, and avoid storing the gown in
plastic. Plastic emits gases that yellow the fabric. Be careful of storing the gown in
certain boxes too, as some boxes can re-acidify and can yellow the fabric.
Once you have dry-cleaned the gown and ready to be stored away, cloth wrap the gown with
white fabric (cotton, for example) and place it in a paper in-filled box. To ensure the
box is moisture free, place some silicon gel in the box, and you are ready to store the
gown away. |
