3 Tips on Choosing a
Videographer
Decisions, decisions, decisions. OK, now that both of you have decided to tape your
wedding on video you will have to decide on your videographer. Just as how you would
decide on your photographer, there are a few things that you would go through with the
videographer before you finally decide. Here are 3 simple tips:
- Portfolio. Request to view their past work. Typically,
videographers would have their show reel i.e., best of work they have done. You would be
able to get a pretty good idea of the kind of work they are capable of and their style.
Remember to ask about the price the previous couples paid for that particular style that
you like. Note the picture quality, editing i.e., flow of the video. Did it make sense?
Did it tell a story? The transitions between shots, etc. Listen to the music. Did you like
the choice of music? Most importantly - did you like what you see? If you did then you
should proceed to discuss about prices.
- Details. Assuming that you have discussed the price,
move on to the details. Yes, this is where you work with your videographer on the
specifics. How many cameras would be involved? Is it just a straight off shoot? Do you
want specific shots to be taken? Do you want certain music/songs incorporated in your
videos? By briefing them these details allows them to understand your needs and what's
important to you. Thus, they would pay more attention to these on that day.
- Black and white. Get them to commit it on writing. If
you have visited a professional bridal house you would have noticed that they put the
details in writing so that there are no disputes later. Same here, get it in writing -
exactly how many cameras they would bring, what are the costs that would be covered, when
is the delivery date, important shots that should be covered and videographer that would
be doing the job - you wouldn't want the company to send a different videographer from the
one you chose.
These are some important questions that you should be asking
your videographer. If they were professional enough, they would appreciate that you went
