The
"10 years from now" Test in Making
Small Decisions
It seems like there are so many things to
do and so many decisions to make just to have a wedding. Mainly, I
enjoy doing everything that she wants me to do. Although sometimes I
feel I do not need to be shopping for ribbons and small stuff like
that. Yeah, sure we have our little tiffs just as I am sure a lot of
grooms to be will have with their future wives. But what really drives
me nuts are the debates and arguments either we have with each other
or her with her parents over nitty-gritty items (I usually keep mum
when asked for an opinion when her parents are around). Recently, I
came up with a short-cut way of making these nitty-gritty decisions.
It's called the "10 years from now" test. Some of the
debates were solved using this technique. These decisions include (and
many more but I won't list all of them here):
- Should the ribbons for the church
door be white or yellow?
- Which niece should be the flower
girl?
- Whose car should we borrow as our
wedding car - both of the same make?
- Should there be potted plants in the
house on the wedding day? (yes, this did spark off some
interesting debates)
And the list goes on... So, what we do now
in order to stop unnecessary debates is to close our eyes and say
"Ok, 10 years from now will it matter (the choices here)."
For example, "10 years from now will it matter if we used white
or yellow ribbons?" If it didn't then, we will just make a random
decision. And trust me, it works. Good luck guys!
