Seating The Guests

Seating the guests for reception lunch or dinner can prove to be one of the biggest task (and headache) in planning a wedding. As hosts, careful planning is necessary to ensure the guests are seated comfortably and more importantly, to have a wonderful time.

When arranging the seating, it is important to place relatives and close friends near the Bridal table (you want them to feel privileged). If space is limited, the next best place is to seat them along the aisle.

For friends, it may be a good idea to place them together, or near each other to mingle. We have been told that weddings tend to function like a school reunion also! Mixing friends with a few new friends may also be a good idea, so that the guests will not feel uncomfortable by themselves with a table of new faces. If you have guests who don't know anyone, seat them with the guests of the same age group or same interests, or guests who are more sociable.

You may also have to consider separating guests who are not in good terms with certain other guests. The last thing you need is an argument arising during the reception, or a table of not-so-happy guests.

Seating the guests can be very time consuming. So, allocate some time with your spouse and family members to plan carefully, it should eliminate any pressure you may have worrying if everyone is enjoying themselves during the wedding.
