What I feel about getting married

I would like to share some thoughts on wedding and getting married. I am turning 27 this
year and there has been no pressure from my parents for me to get married. After all, I am
taking a rather considerable amount of responsibility to take care of my brother who is
schooling (being a good big brother I am ;-)). Anyway, that is not the main point. What
makes me sick is that some friends of mine feel so pressured to get married simply because
the rest of their circle of friends have either done so or are planning to get married.
This will trigger some individuals to feel so pressured and start trying to date someone
for the sake of seizing the opportunity of getting engaged and walk down the isle.
Yeah, I admit that I am rather radical when it comes to marriage, despite the fact that I
was brought up in an average Malay family. But my years spent overseas have influenced me
to think that, the best thing to do is to keep myself happy first rather than some other
priorities. Back to the pressure issue - there is a friend of mine (a girl) who is so
anxious to date someone and wanting to get married simply owing to the fact that other
girls in her circle of friends have gotten married. I feel sorry for her. And recently,
when a friend of mine, a guy (flat mate of mine in college) got married, someone walked up
to me and said, "Arif, since every guy in our batch has got married when is your
turn?" I felt that was such a very narrow-minded question but I did not feel insulted
in fact I felt sorry for the guy for his shallowness.
That is all - my point is basically this, to the bachelors out there, you have all your
reasons for not getting married just yet. Think about it this way, marriage is a
commitment which needs lots of thoughts and planning and no one reserves the right to
pressure you in any way, do what is best for you and others will eventually understand.
