Some
things to watch out for when selecting the venue of your wedding dinner
- Contributed by a reader
I will be getting married in September and is doing a lot of 'research' on it as no one in
my family has the experience. I hope you will feature this so that those planning to get
married will be more careful when selecting the place for their dinner.
I have 2 friends who got married recently, one held their dinner at a hotel and the other
at a restaurant. I am not prejudging anyone here so I will let you decide:
Friend A held his wedding banquet in one of the renown 5 star establishment in
Kuala Lumpur. He had every single thing worked out and followed through throughout the
planning of the wedding all the way till the actual wedding day itself.
No 'big' (bad) incident happened and everything went smoothly as planned. That's what he
thought until someone complained about something to the groom a few days later that upset
the couple greatly because this concerns 'losing face' or tarnish of reputation. You see,
the hotel went out of the last dish which was dessert and never served a particular table
even when guest from that table asked for it. The waiter just said - 'we are sorry we went
out of dessert'. The couple brought the complain to the management and upon investigation,
the complain was true. Now, don't expect the hotel to waive off everything but they did
the next best thing which was to apologise profusely and offered to compensate the couple
by buying them dinner. The important thing here is not monetary gains but merely the touch
or the sincerity of the wrong party to be big enough to admit their mistake, willing to
apologise and make up for the inconvenience.
