Hair
Deciding on the most suitable hairstyle for your wedding day can be a
dilemma. Needless to say, this is one of the moments when you wish
that you were on the groom's end - without worrying about whether the
hairstyle is suitable or the headdress is perfectly secured. Chances
are you'd probably be asking the same questions over and over again -
Should I put my hair up, wear it long, or cut it off altogether?
Should I wear a tiara, fresh flowers or clips? Should I colour my
hair?
Our advice would always be to avoid any dramatic new styles. Your
wedding day is stressful enough as it is; you don't need the add the
pressure of wondering whether everyone, especially your husband,
mother or mother-in-law, likes your new hairstyle. Concentrate on
perfecting your usual look. Achieve a great cut, glossy shine and you
will look great.
Your first step should be to visit your hairstylist for consultation.
We personally prefer if you visit your regular salon, because he / she
would probably know better what kind of hairstyles are more suited for
you. If you don't have a regular salon, ask friends for
recommendations.
The Game Plan
Once you have set your wedding date, stop by the salon to discuss the
long-range gameplan. The following game plan should ensure you have
enough time to find your ideal style - and have enough time to change
your mind!
3-4 months
Consult you hairstylist. Take along pictures of hairstyles you like
and pictures of your headdress, wedding dress and dinner dress. This
will give your stylist somewhere to start.
Discuss with your hairstylist if you plan to change dresses or remove
your headdress during the wedding reception, as it could make a
difference in the hairstyle choice.
2 months
Book your hairstylist. Decide whether you're going to do your own hair
for the wedding or if the stylist will be doing the honors, either at
the salon or at your house / hotel. If it's the latter, set up the
appointment well in advance, blocking out enough time to ensure a
rush-free session.
However, our advice is to leave the styling of your hair to the
professionals. Unless you are an expert at dressing your hair or
blow-drying, a stylist will always get a better finish - after all,
it's their job.
4 - 6 weeks
Have your hair coloured four to six weeks before the wedding day. This
is also a good time to start getting your hair into top shape with a
conditioning routine at home, or professional treatments at the salon.
2 weeks
Have your hair trimmed now. Even if your hair is a simple shape, it
will always hang better and look in better condition when the ends
have been sharpened up.
D-Day
By now, your hair would be in tiptop condition. Leave all the stress
behind and let your hairstylist style your hair. Enjoy all the fuss of
being the centre of attraction. This is your big moment so make the
most of it every single minute!
