Give
me back my film!

Our famous last words?
Most of us who has ever taken wedding photos at bridal houses will
know that most of them do not return you your negatives. The studios
will generally keep it, sometimes for up to two years before you can
request for their return. And that's just the way some businesses are
run.
It's a pity that no businessperson has tried to do this differently or
successfully (well, if anyone of you out there knows of one bridal
house that returns the film and negatives immediately to the customers
please let us know). And it is a pity, not enough bride and grooms
dare to do things differently to shock the industry into behaving or
conducting their business according to consumer needs. Why should
consumers who paid hefty sums for their wedding pictures have their
negatives kept by the studios? Haven't the consumers already paid for
the service and products?
We sat here and we debated about whether we should even raise this
issue. After all, we do depend on advertising dollars for some of
these businesses to keep this site alive. But we couldn't pass our
conscience test. We decided to raise it anyway. And we hope enough
couples would raise an issue with the studios to encourage the
businesses to do what the consumers need. And we further hope; some
bridal studios will take the courage to change this practice. May be
it just means a different way of packaging the price.
Time and technology will render keeping the negatives and film
useless. When that time comes, it may be too late to react.
