Located on Lorong Burma, this Thai Buddhist temple was built on five acres of land donated by Queen Victoria to the Thai community on the island in 1845. The temple entrance creates an immediate impact on any visitor. Inside, is the temple's reclining Buddha. It is 32 meter (108ft) long and is the third largest of its kind in the world. On the temple grounds stand a 9-story pagoda measuring 165ft in height. Just opposite the Wat Chaiya Mangkalaram is yet another Buddhist temple. The Dhammikarama Burmese Buddhist temple provides another insight into the diversity of Buddhist worship on the island.

Kek Lok Si Temple

One of Southeast Asia's finest Buddhist temples, the Kek Lok Si is located in the town of Ayer Itam. Built in tiers, the temple culminates with the beautifully crafted, 7-story, 30 meters high "Pagoda of Ten Thousand Buddha's". The work of ancient Burmese, Chinese, and Thai craftsmen, it took more than 20 years to be built. Featuring a turtle pond, gardens, sculptures, and shrines, the temple is set against scenic surroundings of beauty and tranquility.

Golden Sands and Blue Seas

Along the northern shoreline of Penang lies the tourist belt, with modern international class hotels, fun pubs, food centers, shopping arcades, and night bazaars. Herein lies Penang's best beaches. The Tanjung Bunga, Batu Ferringhi, and Teluk Bahang beaches offer the holiday-maker some of the finest stretches of glittering sandy beaches and secluded coves that lie sheltered by huge rocks. Beach front hotels have a host of activities for guests, including a traditional massage by the beach.
