 Legend has it that the pure white sandy beaches were originated from the
seepage of white blood that flowed from the body of a beautiful princess named Mahsuri.
Mahsuri, who was wrongly accused of having an adulterous affair, was quickly judged,
condemned, and sentenced to death. Her continuous protest of innocence was in vain.
However, during her execution none of the soldiers assigned as executioners could complete
the task with their weapons. Her death was eventually brought about when the executioner
plunged her own "kris" (dagger) into the princess. The blood, which flowed from
her was white, thus depicting her innocence. With her dying breath, the princess laid a
curse on the island, that the island would not prosper for seven generations. On the spot
where she died, a tomb called Makam Mahsuri was erected where people from all walks of
life come to relive the legend in its own backyard. This has now become something like a
shrine and is a "must-see" among tourists. The Makam Mahsuri is a fine white
marble that is surrounded by white walls - a clear reminder of her innocence. Her tomb is
about 12km away from the main town of Kuah.
 Langkawi's beaches are the main attraction on these islands. It is not
glittering gold sands that you see but perpetually stretches after stretches of soft white
beaches, which is most alluring. Cenang Beach is for swimming, sun bathing, sailing, and
windsurfing. Facilities and trips to nearby islands, snorkeling, and scuba diving can be
easily arranged. Besides water sports, Cenang is also home to Langkawi's underwater world,
a marine showcase featuring both fresh and seawater fish and other forms of marine life.
There is a 15-meter tunnel that allows visitors to walk through and enjoy the spectacular
view of the exhibits. Tanjung Rhu lies on the northern cape of Pulau Langkawi. Aptly named
for its abundance of casuarinas, its enchanting beach affords magnificent views of nearby
islands, which can be reached at low tide on foot. An experience not to be missed. A short
journey on boat from Tanjung Rhu brings you to the doorstep of the Cave of Legends, which
is of course steeped in fabled tales of mystery and romance. Other idyllic beaches are
Pantai Kok, Pantai Tengah, Burau Bay, and Datai. These beaches offer carefree sun-filled
days and quiet evening strolls. First class accommodations are available in modern hotels;
for those traveling on a budget, there are captivating chalets.
 Locally known as Telaga Tujuh, this is a geological marvel. It is a spot where
a freshwater stream cascades about 90 meters down via a series of seven pools, hence it's
name. Visiting the pools, especially the top one, will definitely bring excitement besides
seeing greenery and enjoying cooling surroundings. Adding a mystical touch to the natural
splendor is the lush green forest that surrounds it. Legend has it that fairies used to
come down to frolic and bathe.
 Situated near Kuah Jetty, it is the most prominent landmark for those arriving
by sea. The square's main attraction is the magnificent statue of the reddish brown eagle
majestically poised in flight. The square is beautifully landscaped and its close
proximity to the sea affords soft breeze that makes it an ideal spot for leisurely walks
and a tranquil setting for dinning in the evenings. At night, the square is beautifully
lit.
 This is the country's first indoor water theme park. Its wide range of water
based activities feature action packed rides designed for the more adventurous, in search
of thrills and spills. For those who can't swim but do not want to be left out, there's
the indoor Jacuzzi to relax in and soothe those tired muscles.
