 Muharram, the first day of the Muslim calendar, coincides with Prophet
Muhammed’s journey from Mecca to Medina in AD 622. On this day, Muslims relive this
happy occasion by attending various religious activities throughout the country. Spiritual
songs or nasyid are also sung to reflect the significance of this event, which marks the
beginning of the Muslims year.

City Celebration

Do not miss out on this
one-day event where Melaka’s glorious past and centuries-old history is reenacted for
all to view. To add to the atmosphere, there will also be cultural shows, dances and songs
performed by the various communities of Melaka.
• Good Friday

Good Friday is celebrated in quiet worship at the many churches and cathedrals in
Malaysia. Candlelight processions are held in certain towns to commemorate this auspicious
