A Club For Cigar Connoisseurs

[ Home ] [ Index ] [ Location ] [Attractions]

Tucked away in a quiet corner around Bukit Ceylon (behind Istana Hotel), lay a charming Cuban restaurant cum bar known as Little Havana housed in a circa 1930 colonial style bungalow. Inside, pictures of little island embrace the ageing walls which open out to a patio with potted plants and marble top tables.

"We wanted to create an unintimidating atmosphere. Some cigar establishments promote arrogance and elitism. This is the opposite of what we want our clients to experience.

They will be provided world class service but without the attitude," says owner Kenneth Warren Kolb, a Cuban American who has been in and out of Malaysia for the past seven years. In Kenneth's opinion, cigars are not exclusively for the rich and famous as most people think. As long as you like it, and mind you it is

an easy habit to fall in love with, go for it. But even if you are not a cigar smoker, Little Havana is a lovely place to be in, cosily decorated with its overstuffed chairs, teak tables and subdued lighting. "It feels like visiting someone's house in Cuba".

A cigar lover, Kenneth 34, found that there was a shortage of quality cigars in Malaysia. He started importing cigars for his own

consumption. Before long, he saw business potential and decided to set up a cigar bar. According to Kenneth, one chooses cigars according to the brand rather that the country of origin. The tobacco may come from anywhere in the world, but it is the blend (or manufacturer) that makes a cigar distinctive. Little Havana has a whole range of exclusive brands like Macanudo and Partagas and the cigars come from as far as Cuba and Holland. Besides getting to choosing the right type you can also purchase mini humidors on sale, real nifty looking boxes made from quality wood, cigar pouches and other accessories. Kenneth thinks cigar smoking will be latest trend for Klang Valley. A lot of patrons are picking up the habit including women. So for those cigar connoiseurs out there, be sure to check Little Havana out, our very own little Cuba in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.
