| Malaysia Goes
To War For RM2.5 Million
Lt Adnan, a local RM2.5 million production,
is set to be released on National Day, August 31. A special premiere has been scheduled
for July 31 at the TGV cineplex in KLCC with Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Sallahuddin
Abdul Aziz Shah expected to attend.
Lt Adnan is the true story of Lt Adnan Saidi, who was killed on Feb 14, 1942 at
Bukit Candu, Singapore fighting Japanese invaders. He ran away from home at the age of 18,
joined the army and rose to the rank of lieutenant before he was killed at 27 years of
age. A true Malaysian hero, indeed!
Deputy Army Chief, Lt. Gen Datuk Aziz Hassan said that the script for the film had been
carefully researched based on interviews with Adnan's childhood friends and colleagues and
detailed British war records. The army was also responsible for the RM$2.5 million funding
of the movie and provided technical advice as well as uniforms and weapons.
Lt Adnan, which begun shooting in January, has almost completed production. It
is directed by Aziz M. Osman and stars Harie Othman, who plays the title character.
Co-starring are Farid Amirul Hisham and Umie Aida. The theme song, Di Medan Ini, is
performed by Awie.
