Movie review by: Yap Soon Min
Click here for pictures Yet again another action packed movie with
Hong Kong star Ekin Cheng in it. Unlike previously over-hyped movies like Hot War
and A Man Called Hero, this stylish action adventure cum comedy movie entitled
Tokyo Raiders will blow all other Asian movies away. As the title mentions,
this movie was indeed filmed in Tokyo and was made with a budget exceeding HK$40 million.
Also I need to mention that our country, Malaysia, had the honour to be the first
territory to release this anticipated hit, overriding even Hong Kong by a day.
Having similarities to a Bond movie, high flying action starts the movie up
with scenes of fast and stylish moves accompanied with bits of humour strewn about. A very
impressive effort put together with actors from both Hong Kong and Japan. There is no need
to worry because all spoken Japanese is translated for viewers as the movie contains quite
a lot of that language. Also noticed is the large amount of the cast which happens to be
Japanese.
Hong Kong actress Kelly Chen plays the beautiful damsel in distress whom Ekin Cheng
comes to the rescue. The plot of the movie although not complicated isnt completely
transparent and over easily predictable like most movies released nowadays. One thing for
certain is that any fan of action movies and good looking people running around will
definitely have a good time. To the girls out there, you all will probably remember the
good looking Japanese guy in Gen-X Cops named Toru Nakamura. He stars in this
movie as the baddie whom is being hunted by all sides of society, government and gang
lords alike.
Basically, the movie is about Elli (played by Kelly Chen) is stood up by her fiance
Takeng (Toru Nakamura) and embarks on a journey to Japan to locate her missing
husband-to-be. Upon arrival, the real action starts as the plot thickens and reveals
itself to be more complicated than what was expected. Accompanying her to Japan of course
is our hero Ekin Cheng along with his fast and furious kung-fu moves. As the movie
progresses, the couple meet up with many other characters, mostly Japanese, foes and
friends alike to aid them in the search for her lover.
Definitely a must watch for any Ekin Cheng fan. Even if you are not, guys and girls
alike will enjoy good looking people moving around Tokyo in style and flair.
