And I Hate You So (can)
A witty romantic comedy starring Aaron Kwok and Kelly Chan. This film spins a tale of a love-war between two public figures, namely, columnist Wu (Kelly Chan) and radio DJ Zhang (Aaron Kwok). Zhang hosts a popular radio program where callers seek his advice regarding their love affairs. One day, Wu has a really bad meeting with her ex-boyfriend and Zhang takes advantage by commenting and gossiping about her love life. Outraged, Wu declares war by writing nasty things about Zhang's program. The fight captures the imagination of the public and culminates in Zhang being fired from his job. However, the two protagonists find themselves attracted to each other but just can't find the courage to admit it. So, is anybody going to win this war of the heart?

Two protagonists who hate each other's guts end up falling in love, yada yada. Booring! But before you jump to conclusions as to how unpalatable this movie is going to be, take note that the two leads in And I Hate You So are Aaron Kwok (star of the Chinese New Year blockbuster 2000 A.D.) and the beautiful Kelly Chan (Tokyo Raiders).

Chan is absolutely endearing as the rash and impatient Luna, a well-known newspaper columnist who finds a classic vinyl record she gave to her first love in a junk shop. Her intention to repurchase it is foiled by the fact that the record has already been booked by Zhang (Kwok), an overtly over confident, cocky but nonetheless charming radio DJ. When Zhang makes a comment about Luna on his show, she retaliates with a nasty article about him in her column. Their very personal animosity is such that the public begins taking sides until Zhang is fired.

The two leads are a delight to watch, as they go about their respective vendettas. However, as entertaining and comedic as And I Hate You So was, I kept wondering why Chan was dressed down for her role: frumpy sweaters, long flared skirts and hair messily pulled back - the guys are certainly going to be very, very disappointed. Still, there are no dull moments here, and the girls will definitely be rooting for the spunky Luna in her all-out battle against the chauvinistic Zhang. A fun movie indeed! Even though Kwok is not saving the world ala 2000 A.D. here, he still manages to shine as the controversial radio DJ everyone complains about but still listens to. Think the extreme end of Frasier Crane, only more handsome, and with a full head of hair.
