Try and remember the last movie you saw with racing chariots and sword-fights set in the Roman Empire. Still thinking? Well if you are a teenager, you could be raking your mind till dawn and probably come to the conclusion that you haven't watched one yet. If so, I will honestly say that this movie will be a very memorable one. Although this movie doesn't have an all star cast, the characters portrayed in the movie are realistic thus bringing to life the raw power and emotion this movie exudes.

Directed by Ridley Scott, the first half-hour of the movie itself shows the brilliance and the incredible detail that went into the making of this movie. Heated fights, packed bodies and close-quarter combat are brought to life before the audience in full scale. Very impressive indeed.

For those that don't know the meaning of the title, gladiators are slaves/warriors that have to fight for their lives in arenas for the pleasure of the Roman mob. This movie is about a great Roman general named Maximus and his quest to seek revenge against the heir to the throne of the Emperor Caesar. Actor Russell Crowe, who was last seen in the political drama 'The Insider', plays Maximus. Set to inherit the throne of the Roman Empire, our hero Maximus is betrayed by the son of the dying ruler, Commodus, played by Joaquin Phoenix. Although you probably haven't heard of him, he plays the part of the evil Commodus very well and if you remember, he last appeared in '8mm' along with Nicholas Cage. Maximus' wife and child are murdered but fate has other plans for our seemingly doomed hero. From there onwards, the movie shows how Maximus survives the obstacles and becomes a great hero for the people of Rome by becoming a famous gladiator. Be prepared to see lots of action in the gladiator arena.

I won't reveal anymore, for this is a movie that you really must see and do see it in the cinema. You won't regret it. Full of action, intensity and drama, Gladiator is a movie that you won't forget anytime soon.
