10 Things I Hate About You, the latest high school film, is a modern-day, souped-up
version of William Shakespeare's "The Taming of the Shrew." What sets this apart
from its many competitors for teen dollars is that not only does the movie feature a
surprisingly edgy and intelligent script, but it offers a group of characters capable of
holding an audience's interest for more than 90 minutes.
Cameron is new in town. And he has his eye on Bianca Stratford, the hottest girl in
school. His tourguide and schoolmate Mike tells Cameron to forget about it because Bianca
is to popular to begin with, but even if she wasn't, her father doesn't allow her to date
anyway. But, Mike tells Cameron that Bianca does need a French tutor. So Cameron learns
how to speak (minimal) French just so he can tutor and be near Bianca. When Bianca and her
sister Kat get home, Bianca whines about not being able to date. Her Father then decrees
that she'll not date until Kat, an independant woman of the nineties type who has no
intention of dating does. When Cameron asks out Bianca she practically laughs in his face.
But then, after thinking about Joey,(whom she likes) she asks Cameron to persuade
someone to take her sister out on a date so she can go to a party under the pretense that
she'll go with Cameron, when she really wants to go with Joey. But then, after thinking
about Joey,(whom she likes) she asks Cameron to persuade someone to take her sister out on
a date so she can go to a party under the pretense that she'll go with Cameron, when she
really wants to go with Joey. Cameron and Mike find a person who's willing, through money,
to go out with Kat.
His name is Pat Verona. Mike and Cameron get Joey to pay for Pat's dates, then instead
of going to a party with Cameron, Bianca goes with Joey.Joey ends up ignoring Bianca at
the party, and she hooks up with Cameron. Cameron drives Bianca home and they have a long
kiss goodnight. Meanwhile, Pat Verona and Katarina hit it off and genuinely like
eachother.
The two new couples go to the prom and there Joey punches out Cameron Binca then
proceeds to beat up Joey. Kat finds out about how Pat got paid to take her out and runs
off. The end of the movie shows Cameron and Bianca going off sailing, and Kat brooding at
home. Then at school Pat gives Kat a new guitar so she can start her band and they get
back together. It's a happy story all around.
